Service overview

What hospital & medical appointments with NABs actually looks like.

What it is

A medical transport booking with NABs is a pre-booked, door-to-door private hire run between your home and a hospital, clinic or consultant's appointment — with optional wait-and-return so the same car takes you home afterwards.

Who it is for

Patients attending outpatient appointments, scans, day-surgery, oncology and physio courses; elderly residents who prefer a familiar driver to public transport; family members visiting relatives in hospital; and patients discharged after procedures who can't drive themselves home.

When you need it

Morning consultations, day-surgery drop-offs and same-day discharges, weekly therapy courses, scan appointments and longer trips to London teaching hospitals. Pre-book the appointment letter and we'll fit our day around it.

Why professional matters

Hospital appointments are stressful enough without worrying about parking, missed connections or an unfamiliar driver. A discreet, patient-focused private hire run removes that whole layer.

What goes wrong when this isn't planned

Get this wrong and the whole day pivots around it.

The transport bit of a medical appointment is the thing nobody thinks about until it goes wrong. Here's what we see:

Hospital car parks full or charged by the hour

Royal Berkshire, John Radcliffe and Great Western all run busy paid car parks. Circling for a space when you've got an appointment time pending is the worst start to a hospital visit.

Discharged with no lift home

Day-surgery patients are routinely discharged on the day with no transport plan. App-taxis won't always carry someone post-sedation; a pre-booked driver will, and waits while you're collected from the ward.

A different driver each visit

For weekly oncology or physio courses, a familiar driver makes the trip feel less clinical. Patients ask for Nick by name on repeat bookings.

No one helps to the door

Standard taxi drop-offs end at the kerb. We walk you to reception when it helps, and meet you at the door on the way out.

How it works

A simple, repeatable, predictable process.

  1. 1

    Quote

Send the pickup, the hospital or clinic and the appointment time. We reply with a fixed price the same working day.

  2. 2

    Confirm

A quick text or call locks it in. For wait-and-return, we hold the time after the appointment in the diary.

  3. 3

    Collect

We arrive at your door 10 minutes early in a discreet black Mercedes-Benz E-Class — quiet, comfortable, valeted.

  4. 4

    Drop & wait

Door-to-door drop at the right entrance, with help inside if needed. We wait nearby for the call back.

  5. 5

    Home

Calm, direct journey home — no chat unless you want it, no detours, no extra waiting time billed.

Why this matters

The difference a real private hire driver makes.

Discreet, unmarked car

No taxi top-sign, no livery — just a quiet black Mercedes at the door.

DBS-checked driver

Nick holds a current DBS check and a council-issued driver's licence — important for vulnerable passengers.

Wait-and-return

We can wait at or near the hospital for the call back, so the same familiar car takes you home.

Help to the door

Doors held, bags carried, walked to reception if that's helpful.

Same driver, every visit

Recurring appointment courses are run by the same driver wherever possible.

Fixed price up front

Wait-and-return is priced as a single agreed fare — no clock ticking against you.

The detail

How hospital & medical appointments actually breaks down.

Medical transport is some of the most rewarding work NABs does — and the most important to get right. Below is how the routine breaks down.

Royal Berkshire Hospital (Reading)

Lambourn to Royal Berkshire is typically 45 to 60 minutes via the A4 and M4. Drop-off at the main entrance, the Sidmouth Street entrance or the South Block as needed — we know the campus and route to the right door.

John Radcliffe & Churchill (Oxford)

Oxford's teaching hospitals — John Radcliffe, Churchill and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre — are served by a typically 50 to 70 minute run via the A338 and A34. Useful for specialist consultations and oncology referrals.

Great Western Hospital (Swindon)

Great Western at Marlborough Road is typically 30 to 40 minutes from Lambourn via the A338 — a common run for urgent care, day-surgery and outpatient appointments.

Newbury & private clinics

Newbury Hospital, BMI/Circle private clinics, and consultant rooms in Newbury and Hungerford are short, easy local runs — usually billed as a fixed wait-and-return job for a one-hour appointment.

London teaching hospitals

We run direct to UCLH, the Royal Marsden, Guy's & St Thomas', Great Ormond Street and the Royal Brompton when a London referral makes a train impractical — particularly post-procedure or with limited mobility.

Wait-and-return & courses of treatment

Wait-and-return is priced as one fixed fare for the whole appointment. Weekly courses (oncology, physio, dialysis) are billed at the same fixed price each week, with the same driver — so it stops feeling clinical.
